Roadtrip 2022 Spring: Seaside - Bend - Boise - Park City - Grand Junction - Park City - Boise - Richland

Day 6 - Seaside to Bend

We depart Seaside for Bend - under highly unstable weather. It's so crazy we decide to avoid Santiam Pass and take the long road via the Columbia and through The Dalles.

Bits of hail are still in the mix as we track towards Longview to line up for a sprint along I-5 south.

Longview, the World Famous City of Steam.

Our first attempt at crossing the Columbia today. We are attempting to tie the World Record of 3 crossings in a single day.

Crossing the Columbia - in a strange twist - we've backtracked to Washington - only to return again to Oregon. Note our "driverless SUV".

The Columbia River is one very nasty body of water. We have Cape Disappointment - Dismal Nitch - and now Starvation Creek.

Maybe you starve here - but at least those who explore are treated to some interesting and unusual natural features.

Russ' entry into the Spot the Tree Competition.

Once again, Oregon DOT mocks us puny and insignificant motorists with their speeding cautions at their flag stops.

Every now and then, we see these massive Sperm Whale Tongue Depressors on the move to some secret government lab on the Columbia River. No sign of the Black Helicopters. Yet.

Once away from the hustle of the Columbia valley, orchards and vineyards are awash in spring.

The last of the really big grain elevators before we bust out into the high desert.

In the tiny town of Maupin Oregon - it's all about the rafting.
